Record holder

Medals were won twice at the Baltic matches. In the hammer throw of the first youth class - bronze in Šiauliai, and two years later, as a college athlete, in Kaunas - silver. But this time in the pole vault. This competition is more memorable because there was progress.

We traveled to Kaunas by bus, two of us. The jumping poles you brought with you could be placed on the floor between the rows of seats. Passengers got off and on during the long ride. We watched them balance on the poles in the bag and held our breath.

On the evening of the competition, we could start with test jumps, when Valeri stretched his pole towards me - "Do you want to try?". I checked the jump wing. I had never held such a black one in my hand before and I considered that I would be faster than him in the sprint, which would give me an advantage in the final acceleration, until I was pushed away. I decided to give it a try and after jumping, I found that it would be the right pole for me as well.

There were many competitors, we sat and waited for the bar to reach my starting height. The fellow started higher. Over an hour passed and it got dark. The weather had changed and it started to rain. However, it didn't rain, we got some hailstones.

I raced my red German. I don't remember exactly what happened next, but I got silver and my friend won with a record.

Today, both fields are also included in the program of athletics competitions for women. I remembered to please them.
